MENTORSHIP

"Train up a child in the way he should go:

and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6

Freddie always had a passion for giving back and that spirit was never more apparent than with young people. It was not uncommon to hear him working on an idea that would benefit the youth of his church or the youth of the community in which he lived.

Even in his early days as a new USDA employee in Cassopolis, Michigan, he was a member of the Babe Ruth Little League board and the Jaycees. That spirit carried on through his later years as he often taught young people skills in gardening and landscaping so that they could gain skills that would take them through their lives.

But this mentorship didn't come without mentees being asked real questions about what they wanted to achieve and how they planned on reaching those goals. With this spirit in mind, the Freddie McNeil Project will support activities that highlight mentorship of young people.
